Echinacea (Echinacea angustifolia) is a herbaceous, drought-resistant, flowering plant, its large and showy flowering heads displaying light pink petals. Its genus is often referred to as coneflowers, and they are native to North American prairies and forests.
Although Echinacea roots have been used for ages by traditional healers from the Native American Plains Tribes, the usage of the herb itself is relatively modern, with multiple contemporary studies indicating the immunological effects of the plant as well as significant increases in resistance to various forms of Leishmaniasis.
